Bryce is back by popular demand! Gardeners are often nervous and hesitant about pruning. This talk eliminates all the mystery surrounding pruning. Topics include: how plants grow, why we prune, choosing and using proper pruning tools, choosing and performing the correct kinds of pruning cuts, and when to prune. Plus, we will talk about many of the historical, and unique types of pruning such as rejuvenation, topiary, espalier, pollarding, and bonsai.
Lunch will not be provided, so please bring your own. Refrigerator and microwave available if needed.

Instructor: Bryce Lane discovered his passion for plants, and telling others about them working at a local garden center through high school and college. After earning his BS and MS in Horticulture, he came to the Department of Horticultural Science at NC State University as an Instructor. He spent 34 years teaching and advising over 20,000 students. Bryce retired in 2014, but still teaches part-time in the department. For 11 seasons he hosted and produced a three-time, Emmy winning, UNC TV public television show called “In the Garden With Bryce Lane”. He now spends his time giving horticulture talks, doing leadership, and communication training, teaching part-time at NC State, and at the JC Raulston Arboretum, and training NC extension agents in video production. He also hosts a gardening podcast offered by a local NC Garden Center.
