Kelly Fort's indigo journey began in the early 2000s, growing and dyeing with Indigofera suffruticosa, and has since been enriched through classes, books, and collaborations with fellow fiber artists. In this workshop, she will share her expertise on creating and working with indigo dye paste, a technique that allows for year-round dyeing.
Participants will learn about the history and cultivation of indigo plants, the science behind indigo dyeing, and the step-by-step process of using indigo dye paste to create beautiful, vibrant colors on fiber. The paste, prepared from Kelly’s own plants, will be used during the session to give everyone a hands-on experience with this ancient and fascinating technique.
What to Bring: Rubber gloves (such as those used for washing dishes) to protect your hands during the dyeing process.
Whether you're a seasoned dyer or new to the craft, this workshop will deepen your understanding of indigo and provide you with the skills to incorporate this captivating dye into your fiber art projects.
Although we are not open to the public on a daily basis, you can view our dynamic, breathtaking property through tours, events, or by taking one of our camps or classes.
